Psalm 78
1 Pay attention, my people, to my instruction! Listen to the words I speak!
2 I will sing a song that imparts wisdom; I will make insightful observations about the past.
3 What we have heard and learned – that which our ancestors have told us –
4 we will not hide from their descendants. We will tell the next generation about the LORD’s praiseworthy acts, about his strength and the amazing things he has done.
5He established a rule in Jacob; he set up a law in Israel. He commanded our ancestors to make his deeds known to their descendants,
6 so that the next generation, children yet to be born, might know about them. They will grow up and tell their descendants about them.
7Then they will place their confidence in God. They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey his commands.
8 Then they will not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that was not committed and faithful to God.
We’re told many times, in the Bible to teach the following generation about the LORD. Not everyone is called to be a Sunday school teacher. Not everyone is good with kids. You don’t have to have a soft spot for children, or children of your own to take part in this important work. There is a duty for all of us to reflect Christ in our lives. To continue to build the church and of course pray. Note, we’re continuing the work of the generations before us. Let us pray for the young, of right now, and future generations. As the past generations prayed for us.
Pray for their protection from evil as Jesus did. Jn. 17:15 “I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe from the evil one.”
Let’s pray that our current generation will be faithful in teaching, in both word and deed. That our live styles would reflect Christ.
Pray for parents. That even with all thier human flaws. God’s grace would fill in the gaps. That their lives would be a living testimony of Christ. Pray for the children of the saved and unsaved alike. That their hearts would be open to the gospel. Pray for all those “problem child” s and all the “good ones” too.
Pray for teachers, give them wisdom and the spirit of God. Pray for public schools and private ones. Pray that we will invest in our local churches in every way. That we’d raise up devoted disciples, to take our place when we’re gone. Pray for repentance of sin. Pray today we’d all live for the Lord. That the focus will be on the power of the cross and not anything of ourselves. Of course that Jesus would be our only glory.
Praise the Lord for the privilege of being part of building His Kingdom!🙌
note: In John chapter 17, Jesus prayed for His disciples and every believer that would follow them. It a wonderful illustration of love and prayer. This is a wonderful reference, to learn from, on how we should pray for each other.
