Psalms 35

God Help Me

Jesus said, Which one of you can prove that I have sinned? (John 8: 46) “Prove” means “show it is true”. The answer is in the Letter to the Hebrews: He did not sin, Hebrews 4: 15)

(This is) for David.

*1* Lord, argue with those people that are arguing with me. Fight against those people that are fighting against me.

*2* Pick up a small shield and a big one. Get up and give me help.

*3* Pull out a small spear and a long one. (Use them) against the people that are running after me. Say to me. “I will make you safe”.

*4* Some people want to kill me. I hope that they will become ashamed. I hope that everyone else will think that they are very bad. Some people are planning to destroy me. Turn them back and confuse them.

*5* Make them become like chaff in the wind. Let the angel of the LORD send them away.

*6* Make their way dark and dangerous. Let the angel of the LORD be unkind to them.

*7* (Do this) because they hid a trap for me. There was no reason for it. For no reason they dug a pit for me.

*8* Surprise him and destroy him! Catch him in the trap that he hid! Let him die in his own pit!

*9* Then I will be pleased because of what the LORD has done. I will be happy when the LORD has made me safe.

*10* All my bones will shout, “LORD, who is like you? You take the poor man away from the man that is too strong for him. You take the people that need help away from those that hurt them”.

*11* People say that they saw me do bad things. They asked me about it, but I knew nothing.

*12* They paid me evil for the good things that I did. I felt as if (my children) had died.

*13* When they were ill I wore clothes made from sacks. I hurt myself by not eating food. My prayer came back to my own breast.

*14* I cried when I walked about. I became bent because I was so sad. I lived as though my friend or my brother or (even) my mother (was ill).

*15* But when I fell down they laughed. They all met together. They came together against me. I did not know the people that were attacking me. They would not stop hurting me.

*16* They were like godless people and they mocked me more and more. They showed their teeth (like a wild animal).

*17* LORD, how long will you watch (this)? Take me away from the people that are destroying me. Save the thing that I love most from the lions.

*18* I will thank you in the great meeting. I will praise you when all the people are together.

*19* Do not let my enemies laugh at me. They hate me, but have no reason for it. Do not let them wink at me with their eye.

*20* They do not talk about peace. They say false things to the people in the land that do not want trouble.

*21* They open wide their mouth against me. They say, “Aha! Aha! Our eyes saw it!”

*22* LORD, you saw it (also). Lord, do not remain silent. Do not stay far from me.

*23* Wake up! Get up and give me justice! Argue (for me against them), my Lord and my God.

*24* LORD, you are righteous. Give me justice, my God. Do not let them laugh at me.

*25* Do not let them think in their heart, “Aha! (this is) what we wanted”. Do not let them say, “We have eaten him up!”

*26* (Do this) to them that laughed at me when I became hurt: make them ashamed and confused at the same time make them sorry that they said that they were greater than me make them feel that they are wearing disgrace like clothes

*27* (Other) people will be very happy (when you say) that I am righteous. They will shout out in their pleasure. They will always say, “The LORD is great! He loves it when his servant has peace!”

*28* My mouth will say that you are righteous. I will praise you all day long.

Day 11 REMEMBER (what to pray and how)

Heb 13:3 Remember those people who are in prison. Think about what that would be like for you. Think like someone who is there with those people in prison. Remember those who have troubles because of other people. Other people are doing bad things to them. Trouble like that could also happen to you. Think about what that would be like for you yourselves.

Remember. Are we being instructed to just think of all the hardships of others. Imagine ourselves in this situation and then just feel sad? It can be easy sometimes when we hear of suffering. To just feel awful about it. On one hand we might try to tell ourselves to just stop thinking about it. On the other hand then, we feel bad, knowing the person suffering can’t simply stop thinking about it. There might even be a feeling of guilt that we’re so fortunate when others aren’t. I know I’ve often wondered why I’m so fortunate to be born in the United States of America. So many comforts, such daily security compared to other countries. It’s hard to picture myself somewhere else. Even here though, I hear of people in situations I find it hard to imagine. I’ve experienced pain and loss but nothing compared to some.  When the verse says, “Trouble like that could happen to you”, it isn’t to frighten us, but to move us to give the compassion, we’d like to receive in our time of need.

There are many ways to take action in helping people. I’m not here to suggest them all. This is a prayer blog. So I’m suggesting you to to pray for those who are suffering. Now don’t use me as an excuse either. If the Lord is calling you to take other actions as well. Do So, pray as well though, always pray.
Also don’t feel bad if, all your called to do about a situation is pray. God has His purposes for our prayers.
I recall a situation once, while talking to my Father. He was concerned about a loved one. He felt helpless in the matter. He kept saying, “I just wish I could do more to help him.” I kept saying, “All we can do is pray Dad.”
Life experience, since, has made me regret part of that sentence; “All we can do is…” as if prayer is a small thing. Prayer is the first thing we should be doing. We may be helpless on our own, but God is called The Almighty for a reason.

James 5:16 “…The fervent prayer of a righteous men availeth much.” That is KJV obviously. I want to give you the EasyEnglish version. It’s the plainest version I can find: “God really listens to a person that obeys God. God does powerful things when someone like that ask Him to.

Your obeying Him, when you pray as he instructs. Prayer is a very powerful thing, even when outcomes don’t always look the way we thought they would. God moves in amazing ways. Ways we can’t always understand but he dose move.

Sometimes I feel lead to post an actual prayer here. I’m feeling today that I should leave it up to the reader. You know what suffering is on your heart to pray about. So pray accordingly. Think if you were in their situation, what would you want someone to pray for you.  When we do this, we  often feel sadness. Release the heaviness on your heart for them, to God in prayer, the name of  sweet compassionate Jesus.

Day 6 It had to be man’s blood.

pentecost-fire-dove.jpg

John 16:8-John 16:10 ERV “When the Helper comes, he will show the people of the world how wrong they are about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment. He will prove that they are guilty of sin, because they don’t believe in me. He will show them how wrong they are about how to be right with God. The Helper will do this, because I am going to the Father. You will not see me then.

The Helper here, is the Holy Spirit. On the day Jesus was referring to, the Holy Spirit of God was poured out in a way, like never before. That day is known as the Day of Pentecost. The Church was launched and the world would never be the same again. This out pouring happened because First Jesus had died for man’s sin. Then He conquered the consequence of sin, that is death, by raising form the grave. He then ascended into heaven. The bible teaches that He intercedes for us, night and day.

Full Definition of intercede

in·ter·ced·edin·ter·ced·ing

  1. intransitive verb
  2. :  to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences :  mediate

Only Christ bring man and God back together again. His Spirit is the Holy Spirit that teaches us of sin. It’s consequences and the way out of these consequences. Some would say that a preacher does this. Lets read again what Jesus said: “When the Helper comes, he will show the people of the world how wrong they are about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment. He will prove that they are guilty of sin, because they don’t believe in me. He will show them how wrong they are about how to be right with God. The Helper will do this, because I am going to the Father. You will not see me then.  This passage makes it clear that the Holy Spirit is needed for people to recognize their sin, and their need to be saved form it. Of course pointing to the cross of Jesus.

Though in smaller measures, in Old Testament times, the Spirit of God moved people to make sacrifices for their sins. This of course was only a picture of what Christ would someday do. You can read the stories of the Spirit of  God filling the temple after the sacrifice was made. Not because the blood of animals could take sins away. Animals don’t sin, their death could not serve the penalty of man’s sin. It had to be man’s blood. So our God became a man to pay that penalty.

Heb.10: Instead, these sacrifices are a reminder of sin every year, because it’s impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.Therefore, when he(Jesus) comes into the world he says,You didn’t want a sacrifice or an offering, but you prepared a body for me;

People in the Old Testament were taught form the Holy Spirit to make sacrifices all the way back in Genesis. This didn’t take away sin but pointed the future of the cross. They may not have fully understood this. Even so, when thier faith was that only God could take their sins away. It was “accounted to them for righteousness”. Even if they lived and died before the event of the cross, it was the cross that saved them. It was the future event of the cross that brought the Holy Spirit to them.

Never forget when you pray that without the cross you, cannot have the Spirit to pray, you would not even be drawn to pray. We are able to ask for greater measures of the Holy Spirit because of the cross. Speak about this when you pray and see how the Holy Spirit seems to “Charge” your prayers.

Jesus says that the Helper(Holy Spirit) brings conviction of sin. Lets pray for this today in particular. Pray that The people without Christ, will be convicted of their sins, before a preacher or whom ever presents the gospel to them. Pray that the Spirit leads them, to the truth that they are in need of forgiveness. Pray that they would open thier hearts and accept Jesus, for forgiveness. Also lets pray for the Holy Spirit to convict all believers. That through His power we would no longer desire or tolerate sin in our own lives. Again always remembering the Cross of Christ.

1. Trust He understands you…”I bow my knees to the Father…that He would grant you…to be strengthened with the might of the Spirit.”(What to pray for and how)

th (1)

I bow my knees to the Father…that He would grant  you…to be strengthened with the might of the Spirit. Eph. 3:13,16

Why are we able to pray for the Holy Spirit to do this?

And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed  the altar the burnt offering and the fat: and when all the people saw it they gave a loud cry, falling down on their faces. Lev. 9:24

After the sacrifice was made for the people’s sin, the Spirit of God came down and the people worshiped seeing this awesome power! People are sinful and God is Holy so He cannot be with them. Sin’s Punishment being death, there must be death to atone for us. I remind you of this because we must always keep in mind that we can only approach God because of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

By this which we are sanctified(made holy) through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb.10:10.

When we pray for the Holy Spirit to strengthen one another as  Paul was for the Ephesians, we can ask because Jesus made atonement once and for all. We know God freely gives His spirit to the saints.

We’re praying with the power of the Holy Spirit!

Likewise the God’s Spirit also helps us because we are weak. We do not know how  we ought to pray. But God’s Spirit Himself prays on our behalf. He cries to God on our Behalf in a way that nobody could say with words. Rom. 8:26

SO AWESOME!

The Bible tells us things we should pray for, but much of how prayer even works can be a mystery. However God”s Spirit, the Holy Spirit knows. Living with in us, even though our feeble minds cannot fully grasp it. Even when our feelings but cannot be put it into words God knows. Don’t talk to the LORD as if he’s someone you have to explain things perfectly to. I know some Prayer “Experts” like to tell you there’s  certain words you must pray in order to be effective. As if God is unable a to misunderstand you. As if He might even misunderstand you. How could this be?!  God knows everything in our hearts. Psalm 44:21 would God have discovered it, since He knows the hearts?

God knows everything!  He is not capable of misunderstanding.

When  our heart is right and our words are wrong, He knows our weakness and hears our heart instead. Don’t let anyone intimate you out of praying! Many pray out of pride and sound wonderful, again God knows their heart as well.“They have received their reward” Matt.6:5

Back to our title verse: I bow my knees to the Father…that He would grant you…to be strengthened with the might of the Spirit. Eph. 3:13,16

Pray for the Spirit of God to strengthen all members of the church. That they would be living in the might of His Spirit. Not for themselves but for His Glory. Pray for areas of weakness you  see in the church or in yourself. Pray that everything we do is in His might and brings glory to His name. Pray relaying on the fact that His cross has brought you to the presence of God to pray, and that God Himself now lives within you and prays though you, even when your lost for words. All this is possible because of His sacrifice for you, we must keep that ever present in our minds. Know as you pray that words might fail you but God hears your heart as you pray for your fellow believers and yourself. Be aware careful of any pride that may be guiding your prayer life.Remember He hears that too. Keep in mind His glory and not your own. When you find yourself being prideful confess and receive His forgiveness . Turn your focus again to bringing Him glory.

To Christ be the glory…
